Build

Extending the Head Chassis

Steps 1-6

Retrieve the dome assembly from the previous issue. Position Dome Frame DF-13 as shown, aligning the locating pins and screw holes on the frame. Secure this with two (2) 2×6 mm silver screws and 2×4 mm nuts.

Refer to Issue 5 on how to attach these Dome Frames as the process is exactly the same as before:

This is what it should look like attached:

Steps 7-11

Position Dome Frame DF-12 adjacent to the previous frame piece (filling the gap) and attach in the same way:

Assembling the Support Base

Steps 1-4

Gather the Support Base Centre from Issue 12, the three Dome Support Base Legs in this issue, and the Support Rod and three (3) 2.3×6 mm black screws from Issue 11. Note that one of the Dome Support Base Legs has a tab and cylindrical post on it (in the center below):

Fit this longer leg in the middle of the Support Base Centre. The center post of the leg should fit into the hole in the center of the base, while the leg’s mounting hole should align over one of the bases’s three posts. Then, press the parts firmly together and secure with one (1) 2.3×6 mm black screw.

This first leg can go into any of the three slots in the base:

Steps 5-6

Take one of the remaining Dome Support Base Legs and fit the mounting hole over another of the base’s posts and screw into position with one (1) 2.3×6 mm black screw:

Step 7-8

Repeat the last two steps for the final base leg:

Steps 9-11

Take the Dome Support Rod and insert it all the way into the central socket of the Support Base Centre.

Unfortunately, DeAgostini neglected to send me the Dome Support Rod with Issue 11, so this is the base without it. I did contact them and they said they would get one sent out. I will update this page when it arrives.

UPDATE October 29, 2019: Model Space/DeAgostini was able to send me a replacement Issue 11 that included the Dome Support Rod, so here it is installed into the base:

Steps 12-13

To use the base, push the Support Rod into the bearing on the underside of the dome chassis. Check the dome chassis is firmly supported and turns freely:

Thoughts

It is nice that Model Space/DeAgostini includes this display/work stand, but I don’t see myself using it much. The unused Ring Frame and Ring Frame Connectors will be needed in the next issue.
