ISSUE 35

 Return to the BUILD

“This issue’s components are all used to make the internal compartment that holds Luke’s hidden lightsaber, ready to pop up through R2-D2’s head on command. You will assemble the ejection mechanism and lightsaber itself in later [issues].”

I took the photos for this issue (and the next five issues) with my new Canon 90D DSLR. However, after a long micro focus adjustment session, I neglected to turn RAW format back on. So, I apologize if these images seem to be of less quality than usual!

Making the Storage Tube

Step 1

We are going to need the Lightsaber Tube Right Half, one (1) each of the Catches, Springs, and Washers:

Steps 2-3

Fit a Catch over the post of the Lightsaber Tube Right Half with the curved edges in the slots:

Step 4

Fit a Spring over the post:

Step 5

Fit one (1) 2.3×6 mm black screw through a Washer, insert into the hole in the post, and screw it firmly so that it lightly compresses the Spring:

Steps 8-9

Repeat steps 2 through 7, assembling the second Catch on the other half of the Lightsaber Tube Left Half in the same way:

Steps 10-12

Align the two halves of the tube together with both Catches at one end and press them together:

Step 13

Screw the two halves together with five (5) 2.3×6 mm black screws.

Pay attention here to ensure the screws are inserted from the correct side:

Thoughts

Well, this issue was a little tricky because it involved the Springs, but it was fun! Keep this assembly safe (along with the unused Lightsaber Tube Cap) until we attach them to this assembly in Issue 37.
