Return to the BUILD
“This [issue’s] parts enable you to continue putting together the outer shell for R2-D2’s dome and add the first part of the casing for his left foot. Both sub-assemblies are now well on the way to completion.”
Materials: The Dome Panel is metal, but the Inner Foot Casing is plastic.

Fitting the Dome Panel
Stick the two Double-Sided Tape strips to the inside of the dome around this opening. Peel off the tape’s backings and stick the Dome Panel into place (with the part number at the top). Make sure the panel is aligned and flush.
Since we have already installed a few of these panels already, there is no need to break down the steps each time. This is the final result:
Fitting the Left Foot Casing
Retrieve the left leg assembly from the previous issue, align the Infrared Sensor with the recess behind the drive wheel, and secure with one (1) 2.3×6 mm black screw:
Connect the Sensor Cable we measured out in Issue 55 to the socket of the Infrared Sensor:
Ensure the Powerbus Cable Mounting Plate is in place (from the previous issue) and align the Inner Foot Casing over the foot. Ensure this Sensor Cable is routed away from the wheel and press the four mounting posts together to lock the foot casing assembly together:
Secure the Inner Foot Casing in place with four (4) 2.3×6 mm black screws:
More dome panels installed and finishing up the left leg even more! This Dome Panel is special as it will expose one of his LED clusters.
